Fabian Luna - Varsity Head Coach

Coach Fabian Luna returns for his second year at the helm of the Oilers Boys Basketball Program. Last year, Coach Luna felt that the program took some great strides towards becoming one of the top programs in the county, "I felt we laid a good foundation to become a very competitive program here at Huntington Beach for years to come. We have some outstanding young men who are talented basketball players." Coach Lunda guided the Oilers into the C.I.F. playing, starting five underclassmen. The Oilers beat Tustin High School in an opening round game 64-56 on February 14.

The Oilers moved on to face an old Sunset League rival in Los Alamitos on February 16 and lost a tough game 52-41. In looking to the future, Coach Luna states, "that was a great experience for our kids and we will build off those two games this year. We felt we had a chance to win that game, regardless of not shooting the ball real well."

The theme for this year is "Unfinished Business," based on what was started last year. "We have some Unfinished Business we need to take care of this year," says Coach Luna. He has some very high expectations for this year's group. The Oilers return all five startes from last year and look to compete for a SeaView League Championship this year.

He also expects to make a deep run in the C.I.F. playoffs, based on the experience of his returning starters, "We have every-thing we need to win games. If we come together and play to out potential, we will be very tough to beat," stated Coach Luna.

Coach Lina graduated from St. John Bosco H.S. in Bellflower, where he played basketball. He continued his playing career at Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson, where he earned a degree in Political Science. He also has a Masters Degree in Teach and Learning from National University. Coach Luna coach at Kennedy H.S. in La Palma and moved to Paramount H.S. where he taught History, and coach boys basketball and volleyball. Currently, Coach Luna is teaching Government and U.S. History at HBHS.

Coach Luna would like to thank his wife of eight years, Tracy and his two boys, Manson and Bradley, who are twelve and five respectively, for their support and encouragement. When not coaching, Coach Luna enjoys surfing, playing basketball and spending time with his family.

Dear Oiler Basketball Supporter,

The Huntington Beach High School Boys' Basketball Team is fast approaching their season.   As always, there are several events during the year that benefit from the support of the community.   Some of the events are the Oiler Tip-Off Dinner, Youth Camp, Silent Auction, and the home basketball games throughout the year.   The basketball program would like to offer people in attendance at these events an opportunity to win a prize or receive a gift.   Along with program advertisements and banners, businesses often sponsor the basketball program with donations for raffle items, door prizes, and snack bar items.   These donations could be gift certificates, food, complimentary coupons, or free services.

It would be greatly appreciated if your company could help sponsor the basketball program through a door prize, raffle item, or any other donated item.   Please let me know if you are interested and I would be more than willing to talk with you or meet to discuss details.   Thank you for your support of Huntington Beach High School Boys' Basketball.

Sincerely,

Fabian Luna
